Why choose hardwood floors?
Aside from wood floors, there are also some other kinds of flooring that we can choose such as carpets, laminate and tile which prices are more cheaper compared to hardwood floors but why do we often choose hardwood floors?
When it comes to durability, hardwood floors are truly one of the top choices hence we don’t have to change or replace our flooring that often if we’ll have hardwood flooring installed at our homes. Hardwood floors are also a great way if you want to add instant character and lavish to any part of our house.
How much would it cost to install hardwood floor?
As mentioned, hardwood flooring isn’t cheap so we really have to allot funds for our flooring if we’ll have a hardwood flooring installation. There are actually a few types of hardwood floors and each type has its own kind of character, durability, appeal and color.
Cost Factors of Hardwood Floor Installation
So, what are the cost factors if we’ll have a hardwood flooring installation in Los Angeles? A few of those cost factors that we should always consider are: the type of hardwood flooring that will be used, measurement of the area, the prep work that should be done before the installation and the installation type.
What are the types of hardwood floors?
Hardwood floors are actually sold in two types which are the solid hardwood and engineered hardwood. Solid hardwood is made with only a single plank of solid wood which made this type of hardwood flooring a very durable one if given with proper care.
An engineered hardwood floor on the other hand is made with several layers of plywood which is then topped with a hardwood veneer. The several layers of plywood used to make the floor makes this type of hardwood floor much durable compared to solid hardwood.
Aside from those two types of hardwood floors, there are a few kinds of traditional wood species as well which also has its own hardwood floors pricing per square foot in Los Angeles. A few of them are Bamboo ($2-$3/sq.ft.), Pine ($1-$3/sq.ft.), Red Oak ($3-$5/sq.ft.), Maple ($3-$5/sq.ft.) and Walnut ($6-$9/sq.ft.)
- Measurement of the area
If we want to check the measurement of the area; then we have to measure the length and width of each section of the room by inches and from there we can now multiply the two measurements (length x width) that we got so we can get the square inches of the section.
After getting the square inches, we can now divide the result by 144 to get the square feet of the section. We then add all the square feet of all the sections of the area and if we wanted to account for waste of the flooring installation, we have to make sure that we are able to add 10% of the total measurement of the area.
- Prep work before installation
Prep work is actually one of the things that we should consider before we’ll have a hardwood flooring installation. The kind of prep work that we are going to have on our floors depends on the current status of the floor; some floors may need just a little prep work but there are also some floors that need a big makeover before we can do our flooring installation.
Installation type
Yes, there are also a few types and methods on how we can do our hardwood flooring installation but whatever installation type we will choose, it won’t affect the cost of the installation that much. Call us for a quote or click here. Fidelity Builders in SFV.
- Click-lock
Click-lock floors are one of the easiest ways to install hardwood flooring for they are just like puzzle pieces of individual planks that are being put together hence it doesn’t needs nails or staples anymore for the installation.
- Plank
Planks are wood flooring pieces measuring around ¾-inch thick and vary in lengths. When it comes to the width of planks, they come in 3 to 7 inches.
- Parquet
If you are into mosaic, then parquet is a good choice for you. This type of hardwood flooring installation comes in different small pieces which is formed together to form a pattern.
- Wood shorts
Wood shorts are actually similar to parquet since the materials used to install the flooring are very small pieces of wood from the leftover woods from those manufacturers of other floors.
- Long strip
Long strips on the other hand are just like planks but are thinner and longer in size with a width of about 2 to 2½-inches.
Other cost considerations:
Aside from those cost factors listed above, there are also a few other cost considerations that we should know such as the following:
- Finishes
After the hardwood flooring installation, our floors would also need a finish which will help prevent our floors from having scrapes, moisture and scuffs.
- Maintenance
Hardwood floors are surely very durable but we also have to maintain its quality. Maintenance for hardwood floors are quite easy, we just have to sweep or have it vacuumed from time to time and to avoid any scratches or scuffs, we can use throw rugs as well.
- Comparison
There are also some other ways for us to have our hardwood floors look more appealing such as by installing other materials on top of it. Carpets, laminate and bamboo are some of the materials that we can use on our hardwood floors.
